Rooflight Loft Conversions
This is a simple loft conversion style that leaves roofs unaltered but one which has a rooflight (or Velux window) fitted flush to the roofline. It is an excellent choice for lofts with plenty of headroom, or in situations where planning constraints won’t allow for converting in one of the other styles we produce.
Rooflight loft conversions are also a budget-friendly choice, leaving the attic space looking and feeling much brighter, airier and roomier.
Dormer Loft Conversions
MK General Building can create full-rear and pitched loft conversions too. A full-rear dormer projects vertically from the roof’s pitch to add headroom and floorspace. Internally, the conversion will have vertical walls and a horizontal ceiling. The pitched style can have several small dormers fitted into the roof.
Full-rear conversions can add a significant amount of extra space, whereas a pitched dormer is often a requirement for homes in conservation areas.
Mansard Loft Conversions
Named after Francois Mansard, a French architect from the 17th century, this is another popular style for loft conversions and sits to the rear of the home. Mansards have flat roofs with sloped 72° walls and windows fitted into small dormers. This design is a solid choice for semi-detached and terraced homes.
Because a loft conversion in the mansard style significantly changes a roof’s shape and structure, planning approval is usually required in advance.
Hip-to-Gable Loft Conversions
Ideal for adding headroom to lofts in Ascot, Esher, Guildford and areas across the South East, these loft conversions require our builders to strip the roof back to the upper hip ends, add a flank wall into the gable, then extend the ridges to meet with this gable. It is one of the most complex styles for a conversion.
The job usually requires major reconstruction to the front of the roof, but our personnel maintain safe conditions and keep their workspace tidy.
